Associate Consultants, Ports and Marine Engineering
to join our
National Maritime Practice Group . This position can be based out of the following offices: Irvine, CA; San Diego, CA; Houston, TX; and Raleigh, NC. Job Description
This Opportunity Provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and/or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector. Facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products at a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your Impact
Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and/or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction. Apply higher-order engineering techniques/practices to develop project design requirements, while incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications. Identify project site, design and construction related risks and provide mitigation solutions. Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare and implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities. Oversee cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level projects or multiple concurrent smaller projects. Collaborate with other engineers and multi-disciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects. Track budgets and progress of milestone activities, and support completion of Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) submissions. Write technical reports and produce concise documentation of findings using sketches, calculations, Excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and engineering software (including SAP200 and similar FEM tools). Prepare and give presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients. Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources per WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Complete all assigned trainings and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering with demonstrated marine and coastal design experience (rehabilitation and new design). Ability to perform technical computations/calculations applying engineering principles to ports and marine structures. Proficiency in technical writing, engineering software/tools, and fundamentals including statics and problem-solving. Experience with AutoCAD and SAP2000 or similar tools. Experience in design/build processes. Familiarity with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management. Ability to plan, conduct, and lead site inspections/investigations in accordance with applicable regulations and policies. Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently and provide guidance to junior team members with QA/QC adherence. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP safety policies. Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek and occasional travel may be required. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program. EIT or Professional Engineering license. 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience with marine/coastal design. Experience with REVIT and BIM tools. Experience with LSDYNA or similar engineering software. Active participation in local professional practice organizations. Experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. WSP Benefits
