Family Law Legal Assistant / Paralegal Location: San Diego, CA Schedule: Onsite, Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours per week Compensation: $80,000 – $100,000 + benefits
Overview An AmLaw 200 firm is seeking a skilled and dedicated Family Law Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join its San Diego team. This hybrid position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about supporting attorneys in family law and general civil matters.
The successful candidate will have strong experience preparing and filing family law pleadings, managing discovery, maintaining case calendars, and communicating effectively with clients and court personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, proofread, and file family law documents, including petitions, responses, declarations, stipulations, judgments, and discovery materials.
Support attorneys in all phases of family law matters, including client intake, case management, discovery, and trial preparation.
Draft correspondence, financial disclosures, settlement agreements, and pre-trial documents.
Maintain and update case files, track deadlines, and ensure all filings comply with court requirements.
Manage attorney calendars, schedule hearings, mediations, depositions, and client meetings.
Conduct legal research, gather evidence, and prepare exhibits for hearings or trials.
Communicate professionally with clients, court clerks, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.
Handle e-filing in California state and local courts and manage document management systems.
Assist with billing, time entry, and other administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications
Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program (required).
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal in Family Law (law firm experience required).
In-depth knowledge of California family law rules and procedures.
Excellent drafting, proofreading, and organizational skills.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal software such as Clio, iManage, or similar platforms.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Spanish language skills are a plus, but not required.
A proactive, professional, and client-service-oriented approach.
