MILIEU Counselor QMHA (Per Diem) Clackamas at Kaiser Permanente Northwest. To provide high quality patient care within an adult residential treatment milieu for patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders. Responsibilities

PATIENT CONTACT: Actively participates therapeutically in the community to engage patients in treatment. Provide physical, emotional, and protective care for patients consistent with treatment planning in structured and unstructured activities/settings. Demonstrate acceptance of diversity with staff and patients. Attend and participate in treatment team meetings regarding patient interactions, observations, and changes in patient status. Facilitate, assist, and provide support with patient supports/activities (e.g., admissions/discharges, group facilitation, urine drug screens, safety checks, patient orientations, transfers, discharge, meals, laundry, nursing care, mail distribution, unit meetings, etc.). Greet and monitor patient visitors; escort patients to off-site meetings or appointments as needed. DOCUMENTATION: Ensure appropriate documentation in patient records for important behavioral observations related to progress in treatment. Document significant issues in patient logs for smooth shift transitions. Inform staff of missing or needed documentation in the patient record. TEAM MEMBER: Act as an active team member supporting patient care. Contribute to individualized treatment plans. Attend unit meetings, provide unit coverage as scheduled, and participate in supervision. Communicate effectively with team and patients/families. Assist nursing staff as needed. Perform other unit duties as assigned. Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience within a residential treatment facility serving adults and families, with mental health or addictions treatment. Education

Associates degree or an Oregon CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) license. License, Certification, Registration

National Provider Identifier required at hire Basic Life Support within 1 month of hire Additional Requirements

Understands and explains counseling skills and the therapeutic intentionality of basic counseling practice and the recovery/treatment process for adults and families. Able to describe and demonstrate reflective listening. Understand basic group dynamics, facilitation skills, conflict diffusion, and how to use those skills. Experience or ability to provide education groups. Demonstrate and describe effective patient observation and assessment skills, empathy, professional boundaries, and problem solving abilities. Working knowledge of best practices in mental health and/or addictions treatment; knowledge of community-based support groups. Knowledge of professional ethics and legal requirements for abuse reporting; awareness of cultural and psychological influences on the counseling process. Working knowledge of universal precautions and charting protocols in addiction/mental health counseling. Customer-focused service skills; excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. Able to facilitate and learn mental health and addiction counseling curricula. Preferred Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience within a residential treatment facility for adults and families with co-occurring disorders. Experience in providing mental health and substance abuse consultation. Understanding of CBT and DBT therapies; knowledge of state licensing requirements for residential co-occurring treatment programs. Ability to interface with large provider and support staff groups; experience with electronic medical records. Notes
