Position Overview The Manager, Payroll is responsible for leading and managing payroll operations supporting the employee lifecycle across multiple states. This role ensures all payroll activities, HRIS payroll data entry, time and attendance, and other HR cyclical processes are executed accurately, professionally, and in compliance with location-specific regulations. This role will establish payroll processes for the Company and develop the Payroll team from startup mode to process improvement, system implementations, and stakeholder management as we move toward an employee-focused, on-demand service delivery model. It supports alignment with HR strategic priorities and projects. Essential Functions & Requirements
Prioritize health and safety by adhering to policies and safe practices at all times Lead a team of payroll professionals to process weekly and bi-weekly payroll operations Manage systems and processes to ensure accurate, timely payroll production, distribution, and reporting (Federal, State and Local), year-end processes (W-2s), garnishments, and unemployment compensation Maintain accurate payroll records including earnings, deductions, and tax withholdings Ensure legal compliance by auditing, reporting development, and building an infrastructure of checks and balances across all locations Lead projects to implement additional payroll needs, balancing standardization with business unit requirements Foster positive relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners (vendors, agencies) Partner with HR and leaders to ensure effective delivery of communications and customer experience Drive operational excellence by analyzing problems and building scalable processes, tools, and system changes Collaborate with clients on process changes to improve efficiency, employee experience, and compliance Inspire the team with long-term payroll process visions and set performance, confidentiality, and integrity expectations Build and maintain a strong team through training, coaching, and succession planning Takes on additional duties as assigned Education
Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, human resources or related field (required) Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certification (preferred) Experience
8+ years of experience in payroll operations (required) 5+ years of payroll management experience with direct reports (required) Experience processing payroll for multiple states with understanding of Federal, State, and Local payroll laws (required) Experience with payroll system integrations and other HR/finance systems; project experience in technology, process, or efficiency improvements (required) Competencies
Strategic perspective of payroll and ability to develop short- and long-term action plans Familiarity with payroll software (e.g., PeopleSoft Oracle, Workday, UKG, ADP) Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance Calm under pressure and ability to maintain high standards of accountability Project management skills across multiple priorities and change management Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity Initiative, leadership in ambiguous circumstances, and an authoritative voice on payroll Ability to gain alignment and influence others Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills Excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders Regular and predictable attendance Benefits, Compensation, & Diversity
