Overview

The Systems Engineer will be a key technical contributor to a dedicated support team responsible for maintaining, configuring, and optimizing the Joint Staff enclave in support of exercises conducted throughout the year. This position ensures that Joint Staff and JSA-developed systems and software are up to date, cyber compliant, and consistently available for mission use. This role will involve hands-on system administration, environment tailoring, configuration management, and direct exercise support. The Systems Engineer will work closely with exercise planners, the Exercise Control Group (ECG), and stakeholders across the EOD TTB and JExD to ensure systems and networks are prepared, functional, and secure for execution periods and related events. This position will support the Joint Training Synthetic Environment JTSE Joint Staff J7 contract at the Suffolk, VA Joint Staff Complex. What You Will Do

Maintain system availability by ensuring all environments and software are up to date, patched, and operating correctly. Perform proactive monitoring, fault isolation, and issue resolution for systems during steady state and exercise periods. Tailor and configure environments to meet specific exercise requirements based on planning conference input. Create and manage exercise-specific digital assets, user configurations, and support tools. Provide on-site or remote troubleshooting and technical assistance during integration, execution, and post-exercise periods. Support implementation of DoD cybersecurity best practices (e.g., STIGs, RMF compliance, vulnerability scans). Assist in maintaining accreditation and compliance documentation in coordination with cyber and security teams. Manage user accounts and access control across enclave systems. Support user onboarding/offboarding processes and resolve access-related issues efficiently. Interface regularly with EOD TTB and JExD planners to understand exercise schedules and system requirements. Participate in planning conferences, technical out-briefs, and readiness reviews. Document system configurations, changes, and incident resolutions in a clear and consistent manner. What You Must Have

5 years relevant experience with Bachelor’s in related field; 3 years experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience. Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security). Strong technical troubleshooting and documentation skills. Experience supporting classified enclaves, exercises, or mission-critical DoD systems. Demonstrated experience managing Windows and Linux-based systems. Familiarity with DoD software and infrastructure, including JLVC, JTT, or other Joint Staff-developed capabilities. Experience with Virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V). Experience with Networking and DNS configurations. Demonstrated experience with system imaging and backup tools. Experience managing Patch management and software deployment. Must have and be able to maintain a Secret clearance. Preferred Requirements

Prior experience supporting live or simulated exercise environments is a strong plus. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced operational environment. Physical Requirements

Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required. EEO and Assistance
