Overview The Associate Center Director (ACD) and Division Chief of Physical & Quantitative Sciences at Moffitt Cancer Center (Moffitt) is a newly reimagined, senior academic leadership role responsible for driving center-wide, transformative research innovation in artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematical oncology, bioengineering, biostatistics, and bioinformatics in oncology. The ACD provides strategic vision, scientific leadership, and administrative oversight for the Division across multiple disciplines within the Departments of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics (Bio2), Bioengineering, Integrated Mathematical Oncology (IMO), and Machine Learning (ML). This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and expand Moffitt's strengths in physical and quantitative sciences through interdisciplinary research and strategic growth. A primary responsibility is to foster collaborations across research and clinical faculty and senior administration to grow in-house expertise, research infrastructure, and team science partnerships that advance innovative approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The ACD will partner with other ACDs (Basic, Clinical, Population, and Translational Sciences; Community Outreach & Engagement; Shared Resource Management; Research Education & Training; Administration) in advising the Cancer Center Director on setting research priorities and scientific vision as a member of the Research Executive Committee (REX). The ACD will also maintain top-tier active research programs principally funded by extramural grants; publish original reports in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals; contribute to local, national/international service to professional societies and committees/study sections/advisory boards; and provide teaching and mentoring of faculty, staff, fellows, and graduate students.

This is an essential leadership position to uphold Moffitt's NCI Designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. The role is critical to ensuring the scientific rigor, reproducibility, and impact of cancer research at Moffitt Cancer Center. The ACD of Physical & Quantitative Sciences plays a key part in upholding the standards required for NCI designation and advancing the overall mission of Moffitt and improving cancer outcomes through innovative, data-driven research.

The ACD of Physical & Quantitative Sciences provides high-level strategic leadership and administrative direction for academic research focused on quantitative, computational, bioengineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning scientific initiatives. Specific activities include leadership and coordination of the four academic departments in the Division, including appointment of Chairs and Vice Chairs; oversight of the Division Appointment, Promotion & Tenure (APT) Committee; establishment of search committees for faculty recruitment; and annual review of space for faculty needs. This position provides shared oversight of Research Programs involving the Division of Physical & Quantitative Sciences and partners with the ACD of Shared Resource Management on services aligned with this Division. The ACD collaborates with Senior Leadership in research strategic planning and evaluation. As supervisor of the Assistant Center Director of Research Informatics, this leader also oversees research informatics. Finally, the ACD fosters dissemination of scientific findings that have a high impact on the community, Moffitt's catchment area, and beyond.

It is anticipated that the administrative duties of this leadership role will require 25% effort, whereas research, teaching and service will comprise 75% effort. These allocations are not fixed, however, and will be reviewed and refined each year in collaboration with the Cancer Center Director.
