Who We’re Looking For
Toyota’s Integrated Vehicle Systems (IVS) Department is seeking a passionate Automated Driving Systems (ADS) Development Engineer. If you’re a hands-on software design engineer with a passion for next-generation technology and innovation, this role is for you. This role requires software engineering skills with customer-focused thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and a strong innovation mindset. The primary responsibility is the development of Toyota’s ADSs through system development, software development, and validation related to recognition, mapping, localization, path planning, and vehicle control. The role supports the IVS department’s objective to research, develop, validate and implement innovative ADAS and ADS technologies.
What You’ll Be Doing
As Software Design Engineer in our Advanced Driving Systems area, you’ll bring our next generation product to market. Responsibilities include:
Developing System and Software Architecture for new ADAS features.
Develop software using Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink in iterative processes.
Propose and develop innovative ADAS features to address high-value customer needs.
Provide data-driven proposals for new ADS and ADAS features, supported by software implementations of proposed algorithms.
Develop simulation environments (HIL/SIL) and integrate software testing processes and tools to enable automated testing. Analyze data with automated quantitative methods for decision-making.
Coordinate with counterparts to align global activities and drive consensus. Collaborate with departments to gather information or tasks to support prototype design.
Summarize data to create visualized reports for technical storytelling. Communicate proactively with stakeholders and management to build consensus.
Drive prototype vehicles in simulated, closed track, and public road environments with the ability to obtain necessary driver certifications.
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, robotics, computer science, or equivalent.
Programming experience in Python, C, C++ in industry or academic projects.
Experience with sensors, CPUs/ECUs; developing application software for testing in system or simulated environments (HIL/SIL).
Experience in unit/system testing, validating, and/or verifying embedded software.
Experience with vehicle networking technology and troubleshooting.
Experience in requirement/specification creation following agile or waterfall processes.
Experience leading or collaborating on development of small/mid-scale software, electronic, or mechanical control systems from concept to realization.
Experience in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and AI implementations.
Exposure to ISO 26262 Functional Safety concepts and application to develop new systems (e.g., HARA, FSR, TSR).
Familiarity with system development quality tools (e.g., DFMEA, DRBFM, FTA).
Strong visual presentation skills for international audiences.
Strong time management and task prioritization skills.
This position requires driving; a motor vehicle record acceptable by company standards is required.
Willingness to work overtime up to 20% when necessary.
Willingness to work a hybrid work style.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
Added bonus if you have
Master of Science (or higher) in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
Experience designing automotive or robotics products.
Knowledge of vehicle control, propulsion, braking, steering, etc.
Experience realizing real-time control solutions for robotics or automated mobile systems.
Experience evaluating ADAS/ADS technologies such as mapping, localization, path planning, and/or control with quantitative benchmarking.
Experience with camera, radar, lidar, or sonar technologies.
Experience collecting and analyzing data from simulations or test vehicles.
