Under general supervision, is responsible for performing advanced professional work coordinating or overseeing the planning and design of various traffic engineering projects. Provides traffic and transportation engineering services to develop the City's overall traffic and transportation plan. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff. Work Location

Applies technical expertise to the development, design, construction, and maintenance of projects relating to traffic and transportation engineering services. Reviews design plans, project specifications, and cost estimates in relation to traffic control; attends review meetings; and identifies and solves traffic and transportation design problems. Coordinates with other city departments in reviewing the transportation related elements of engineering plans for correctness and compliance to policies, ordinances and procedures of the city, state, and federal government. Develops and implements programs to increase pedestrian, bicycle, and transit safety and mobility. Prepares information and responses to City Council or general public questions and/or concerns relating to traffic operations, traffic signals, traffic calming, and roadway safety. Requests and evaluates proposals from consultants, monitors and approves compensation for professional traffic and transportation engineering services, and ensures compliance with project contracted services. Develops, modifies, and implements signal timing plans and traffic signal controller parameters. Leads the installation of upgrades to traffic signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, and traffic counting. Attends pre-bid conferences; analyzes bid results; and makes recommendations on accepting/rejecting bids. Assists with budget preparation for the responsible division. Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college, university, or engineering school approved by a State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. No substitution for education allowed. Six (6) years of experience in traffic engineering which includes at least two (2) years as a registered Professional Engineer administering municipal engineering projects. Licensed to practice engineering in the State of Texas as a Professional Engineer. Preferred Qualifications

Professional Traffic Operations Engineer Certification (PTOE). Civil Engineer. Direct Traffic Engineering experience. Additional Information
