Overview
Product Architect (Data Scientist) – Full time role in Information Technology. The position is located in Northern Virginia and requires up to 10% travel. The role supports the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Land Border Integration (ITI2.1) team, focusing on Agile software development and hardware integration for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Data Science subject matter expert will design data-driven predictive maintenance models, infer and recommend business decisions, conduct root cause (causality) analysis, support IoT device signal analytics and trend analysis for ITI2.1 requirements. The candidate should be experienced in solving complex big data problems, working with algorithms, analyzing large data sets, and running end-to-end data analytical pipelines.
What you’ll get to do
Develop an understanding of the customer’s data environment through data profiling and statistical analyses
Execute complex SQL queries
Design and development of complex large-scale OLTP systems
Obtain, scrub, explore, model and interpret data stored in Oracle and other databases using SQL and data mining tools
Perform statistical analysis and tune using test results
Study appropriate datasets and transform data science prototypes
Research and implement machine learning algorithms and tools and develop machine learning applications
Train data-driven learning models
Maintain and work with data pipelines that transfer and process large-scale heterogeneous data using Spark, Scala, Python, Kafka, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and other data analytics tools
Design, build and support data transformation, conversion, and validation pipelines
Build data manipulation, processing, and data visualization tools for the team
Leverage statistical and computational knowledge to build algorithms for reporting
Apply data analysis, data mining and data engineering to present data clearly and develop experiments
Ensure high-quality data and understand how data is generated through experimental design and how experiments produce actionable conclusions
Assist senior management in making key business decisions
Work with development teams to build tools for data logging and repeatable data tasks to accelerate and automate data scientist duties
You have
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass CBP background investigation (felony checks, drug use checks, and misconduct checks)
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics or other technical field and minimum 10 years of experience or equivalent
Conceptual understanding of data profiling, fuzzy matching, entity resolution, and signal detection theory
Experience manipulating large data sets with SAS, SPSS, R, Matlab, or other methods
Experience developing predictive models for large datasets in high-transaction environments
Experience evaluating and measuring model performance
