The Field Quality Manager (FQM) serves as the primary onsite quality support to all team members and crafts by managing the development and implementation of the Site-Specific Quality Plan and by researching/answering questions regarding quality. The FQM is a member of the project management team, works with minimal supervision, and leads project quality and workmanship standards. The role requires developing thorough knowledge of the project and schedule as they apply to QA/QC. Location & Travel
Location: United States (travel up to 100% to project sites). Projects may be located in any state. Typical project duration: 8–16 months with designated daily per diem and base pay. A company vehicle and fuel card are provided. Rotational program available with routine travel home from the jobsite. Responsibilities
Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures Manage the Site-Specific Quality Plan to ensure products and services meet predefined quality standards and client expectations Read and understand plans and specifications (visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions) and develop understanding of contract plans and specifications for assigned work Inspect field conditions; identify problems, inaccuracies and cost-saving measures; take corrective actions as needed Inspect subordinates’ work for compliance with contract plans and specifications; point out deficiencies and implement corrective actions Gather feedback from employees and supervisors on quality concerns; evaluate and implement action plans Observe installed equipment to determine hazards and needs for adjustments, relocation or replacement Produce quality work meeting plans, specifications and industry standards Maintain working knowledge of MasTec Quality Control Manual and procedures Mentor and train QA/QC inspectors for field duties Prepare Monthly Project Quality Report; review and cosign with Site Manager and submit to Divisional Quality Manager Facilitate Site-Specific Quality Plan implementation and participate in weekly quality status meetings Plan and perform field inspections and tests aligned with construction schedule Perform weekly quality audits on each project scope Ensure timely tests and interpretation to minimize impacts of failures Provide training on project-specific quality processes and requirements Provide QA/QC input to task planning; develop written instructions as needed to supplement planning Organize and maintain project and corporate QA/QC files Review/approve third-party test results for compliance Work with field staff to identify and issue Quality Alerts, nonconformances and corrective actions Train Field Engineers on quality requirements Other duties as assigned Qualifications
Two years of quality experience in construction or operations; experience with civil, electrical, or mechanical activities preferred Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in quality, industrial technology, engineering, construction, welding, or related technical field preferred Trade certifications in testing, inspecting, etc. preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Commitment to health and safety and MasTec’s Zero Injury principles Self-starter with organizational, managerial and leadership skills Working knowledge of construction codes (ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC, etc.) Basic knowledge of all crafts and associated inspection/testing techniques Understanding of quality metrics, lean, Kaizen, and continuous improvement Proficient in Microsoft Office; able to maintain quality records and documentation Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, procedures, and regulations Strong written and verbal communication; ability to present information to project managers, superintendents and clients Ability to coach and collaborate with staff at all levels to drive quality improvements Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders to complete projects Numerical literacy for calculating figures and interpreting data Problem-solving skills for practical, standardized solutions Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Exposure to hazards on jobsites; follow basic safety precautions Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, and noise Ability to perform physical work including climbing stairs and ladders; reasonable accommodations available as needed What’s In It For You
