Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and operation of provider-grade networks. This role is critical to the success of CCX and requires deep expertise in BGP, ISP-grade architecture, and secure, scalable network operations. Candidates with a background in municipal broadband or public sector networks are strongly encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
BGP Routing: Design, configure, and maintain BGP across multiple peers, including route reflection, policy controls, and failover strategies. Network Architecture: Build scalable, redundant networks across core, distribution, and edge layers suitable for ISP-grade performance. Security Integration: Secure BGP sessions using MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, RPKI; integrate firewalls and implement DDoS mitigation strategies. Protocol & ISP Operations: Manage OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, and both IPv4 / IPv6 environments; support peering agreements and IP services (DNS, DHCP, IPAM). Hands-On Implementation: Configure routers and switches, troubleshoot issues, and operationalize network designs. Vendor Platforms: Work with Cisco IOS-XR, Palo Alto NGFW, Infoblox, Nutanix, or similar technologies. Monitoring & Documentation: Maintain NOC dashboards, SNMP / NetFlow tools, runbooks, and detailed network diagrams. Cross-Department Collaboration: Coordinate with city departments (Public Safety, Public Works, Schools, Libraries) and external providers to ensure seamless network operations. Qualifications
BGP Expertise: Advanced understanding of BGP routing, policy control, and redundancy. ISP-Level Design: Proven experience designing and operating provider-grade networks. Security Knowledge: Familiarity with securing routing protocols and integrating network security tools. Protocol Mastery: Deep knowledge of routing protocols and ISP operations. Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with major network platforms and tools. Monitoring & Documentation: Ability to create and maintain comprehensive network documentation and monitoring systems. Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work across departments and with external stakeholders. 7+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 3 years in ISP or provider-grade environments.
