The Office of Special Services for Students with Disabilities at Queens College provides supportive services for all students with disabilities. We ensure their accessibility to all academic and social activities and teach self-advocacy for their success at Queens College and leadership roles in society. By working with faculty and staff, we aim to provide the appropriate accommodations to ensure a successful educational environment. POSITION DETAILS

The Office of Special Services for Students with Disabilities at Queens College provides supportive services for all students with disabilities. We ensure their accessibility to all academic and social activities and teach self-advocacy for their success at Queens College and leadership roles in society. By working with faculty and staff, we aim to provide the appropriate accommodations to ensure a successful educational environment.

Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following

Review and evaluate assessment reports of students with disabilities to determine eligibility for services Develop accommodative services based on a diagnosed specific learning disability under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and make recommendations for necessary assistive-technology accommodations for student success in the classroom Advocate for students with disabilities on issues related to civil rights, funding, benefits, and accessibility Provide leadership for a student development service unit, which comprises a variety of services and programs for disabled students designed to support student success and retention Provide guidance as needed to disabled students regarding academic concerns, including major choice and fulfilment of general education requirements, and legal referrals to disabled students regarding their rights as disabled persons in school and in the workplace Evaluate the overall effectiveness of the portfolio of services provided by the office in supporting the divisional and College-wide goals; oversee data collection, tracking and reporting systems and submit an annual report sharing this information Collaborate with academic affairs professionals in supporting retention and building a comprehensive learning environment that fosters intellectual, psychological, social, leadership, and recreation development of disabled students; educate professors about the nature and limits of special accommodations; inform disabled students of scholarships and special programs Assist senior staff in providing leadership, developing policy, conducting strategic planning and assessment, and representing Student Affairs in various activities, such as authoring the OSS Strategic Plan, identifying goals and targets, mission statement, and guiding principles; developing brochures and website content for students with disabilities and their families Manage fiscal and human resources; oversee grant writing activities for selected programs; coordinate and maintain accurate student records via online database management (Symplicity Accommodate) Supervise a combination of full-time professional and part-time staff members and serve as ADA Compliance Officer for the College

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.

A Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Services, or related field OR a doctoral degree in an appropriate discipline Proficient understanding of disability services and student needs and behavior in higher education systems with direct experience of Federal and State ADA Laws Experience with diverse populations Experience with assistive technology, CUNYfirst, Symplicity Accommodate, or similar online platforms for student data management Experience supervising full-time staff, interns, and/or administrative staff Experience researching/writing grant applications

Oversees daily office operations and provides training and supervision to staff Directs one or more distinct programs in support of the unit in an area of expertise, developing plans, providing services, and managing facilities and equipment Collects and analyzes relevant program and outcomes data, (tracking usage, satisfaction with initiatives, and impact on student retention and success Develops programs to ensure inclusiveness as well as compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies Prepares reports and develops other communications including publications, workshops, and web site materials Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience. Salary Range: $77,173 - $98,995.
