Overview Lurie Children’s Hospital is now offering two annual start dates (February & August) for our comprehensive transition-to-practice Respiratory Care Practitioner Residency program. Upcoming Start Date: February 9th, 2026.

Residency Program This program delivers a hands-on learning approach to facilitate and support the professional development of new graduate Respiratory Care Practitioners. Once admitted, the New Graduate RCP will practice, under the direct supervision of an experienced and licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner.

As a Respiratory Care Practitioner at Lurie Children's, you will be at the heart of our pediatric care team, making a difference every day by providing top-quality and compassionate respiratory care services for the safe and effective care of neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent patients.

Required Prior To Start Date

Graduate from a CoARC-accredited program prior to program start with the minimum of an Associate Degree in respiratory care.

Possess an active Basic Life Support Certification through American Heart Association, active and in good standing.

Possess an Active CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) Credential from NBRC.

Have satisfactorily applied in writing to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Department seeking licensure, have a current license in IL, or have been issued a temporary license in IL.

Required Within 90 Days Of Hire

Successfully pass the Respiratory Care licensure examination by NBRC.

Required Within 180 Days Of Hire

Active RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) Credential from NBRC

Licensure must be furnished by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Required Within The First Year Of Hire

PALS/ NPR/ ACLS certifications.

Education Associate's Degree: Respiratory Therapy (Required)

(BLS) Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, (CRT) Certified Respiratory Therapist - NBRC, (RRT) Registered Respiratory Therapist - NBRC

Pay Range $37.00-$60.50 hourly
