Research Postdoctoral Fellow
Children's National Medical Center, Washington, District of Columbia, us, 20022
Overview
The Research Postdoctoral Fellow is a "research trainee" intended to enhance and develop research competencies in laboratory or clinical research settings. The fellow may engage in various activities and will assist faculty in the conduct of research, reporting to a principal investigator or CNRI Center Director. The fellow may serve in several laboratory roles depending on the scientific specialty and needs of the project, participate in the design and conduct of experiments, and apply knowledge across disciplines such as molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology or animal science, as well as epidemiology, health services research, clinical research, trial design and human subjects protection as applicable.
Based on experience, the fellow may train staff, graduate students and others in experimental procedures and study execution. The fellow will exercise general supervision in the workspace and assist with data management and analysis. They will assist the principal investigator in planning and executing research projects, grant applications and publications, and may help manage resource allocations and day-to-day project activities (e.g., purchasing, oversight of laboratory animals, radioactivity and biosafety issues or human subjects enrollment and regulatory reporting). The individual may guide or lead peers, technicians or other research support staff as necessary to achieve assignments or complete large projects.
Laboratory Context The Triplett laboratory has an open position for a Postdoctoral Fellow to study mechanisms underlying the development of synaptic specificity in the visual system. The lab utilizes multiple cutting-edge techniques, including in vivo electrophysiology and neuronal circuit tracing in genetically-modified mice, and is part of the Center for Neuroscience Research at Children\'s National. Postdocs have access to core facilities such as microscopic imaging, high-throughput sequencing, bioinformatics and behavior, and may attend career development workshops and seminars.
