Location: Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children\u2019s Hospital of Chicago Responsibilities
Collaborates to coordinate service delivery with families and appropriate team members across the continuum. Makes necessary referrals to other team members and/or community resources. Makes pastoral care rounds and visits in assigned clinical areas. Attends patient care rounds in assigned areas. Identifies, assesses, and responds to child/family needs with attention to developmental, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual factors. Focuses on emotional and spiritual needs, including coping with illness, resources, ritual/worship, staff communication, support in stress or crisis, grief support, and linkage with own religious group. Plans and leads worship or other special services, including memorial services, in the hospital and elsewhere. Develops caring, trusting relationships with families to provide appropriate spiritual care. Provides timely intervention for patients and families in emergency/crisis situations as needed. Offers emotional, spiritual, and grief support to families of dying or deceased patients and assists with hospital protocols. Documents thoroughly and timely in accordance with professional standards. Communicates with the health care team to provide optimal care and to inform about spiritual/cultural factors affecting status and care. Maintains relationships to facilitate teamwork and referrals; acts as liaison with assigned teams. Advocates for spiritual/psychosocial/developmental needs of the child and family across the continuum of care; participates in interdisciplinary rounds. Leads team in family services delivery, participates in problem-solving and program planning, and promotes effective utilization of Family Services. Sets family services goals for team care delivery and participates in environmental improvements to reflect a caring culture. Performs administrative and project management duties as assigned; may orient and supervise pastoral care volunteers; may precept pastoral care students; maintains records and statistics. Participates in hospital-wide pastoral care intake and on-call systems as needed; maintains and enhances community resource lists for staff use. Performs job functions with a customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide high-quality care to patients, families, co-workers and others. Other job functions as assigned. Minimum Requirements
Master of Divinity or other graduate pastoral care or religion degree or equivalent from an ATS-accredited school; four quarters of clinical pastoral education or equivalent experience. Endorsement or certification: Endorsement for ministry by religious group; certification by professional chaplains' endorsing body (COMISS-recognized); actively pursuing requirements for endorsement and certification. Pastoral care experience in acute care settings or with children and their families, or equivalent. Ability to think proactively, act creatively, and take initiative. Excellent communication, critical-thinking, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work as part of multiple teams. Spanish language abilities and skills strongly preferred. Education
