Overview
Van Driver role at Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Operates a school bus in transporting comprehensive and special education students to and from schools. Responsibilities include daily pre-trip, post-trip and safety inspections; notifying appropriate persons in case of mechanical breakdowns, delays, or accidents; and completing required forms or reports as designated. Operate a school vehicle to transport students. Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections before and after operation; report mechanical defects to repair staff as appropriate. Drive the vehicle in a safe, prudent manner and comply with all state and local traffic laws and Transportation Division Regulations. Transport and discharge only authorized students at designated schools/locations. Maintain discipline aboard the vehicle and report misbehavior or other problems to school administration/Transportation officials. Adhere to assigned work schedules and routes; report prolonged delays and lateness to supervisors. Notify appropriate persons in case of mechanical breakdowns. Report all accidents and complete required reports as instructed. Attend in-service training as prescribed under COMAR 13.a.06.07.09B and by the Transportation Division. Perform other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower. Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required. Experience
Three (3) years actual driving experience during which time a valid operator’s license was held required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics
Some knowledge of and/or experience in dealing with special needs students preferred. Ability to pass non-commercial Department of Transportation (DOT) physical required. Ability to exercise patience and assist special needs students during transportation. Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students and parents. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations. Proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite) preferred. Licenses and Certifications
DOT physical examination (Annual) required upon hire by a licensed medical examiner listed on the FMCSA Registry. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification preferred; First Aid Certification preferred. Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification preferred. Driver's License (Class C Non-Commercial) required; and proof of a good driving record. Daily access to reliable transportation. Driving Requirements
