Overview

Research Scientist role at Valvoline Global Operations. The position leads the development of Valvoline light duty lubricant products, including passenger car engine oils, motorcycle oils, small engine oils and related products. The role involves collaboration with the regional product strategy team, performing performance and quality testing, managing documentation for industry and OEM approvals, supporting blending plants, and leading a team of scientists for safety, project delivery and professional development. Responsibilities

Lead the development of new light-duty lubricant formulations by selecting and evaluating additives, base oils, and other raw materials to meet differentiated performance and product application requirements. Design and manage novel testing protocols to validate new product formulations for licensing, OEM approvals, and regulatory compliance. Provide technical support to Strategy, Sales, Marketing, and Key Accounts on performance claims and product training. Lead a team of scientists, ensuring safety compliance and guiding project execution and career growth. Support Valvoline's blending plants with production troubleshooting, new product introductions, and updates to quality specifications. Review and approve labels, PI Sheets, and other technical content to ensure accuracy of claims and alignment with specifications. What You’ll Need

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or an Engineering discipline; Master’s or PhD strongly preferred. Minimum 20% travel, including some international travel. Experience formulating finished lubricants; knowledge of oil specifications and qualification procedures is advantageous. Experience with analytical and laboratory methods; strong communication and presentation skills. Experience managing complex projects and meeting tight deadlines; knowledge of engine performance testing is beneficial. Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, SAP and QC software; statistical methods and design of experiments. People management with a focus on empowerment and development; strong collaborative skills. Knowledge of the engine lubricant market, competitors, and product landscape. What Will Set You Apart
