Overview
2nd Assistant Coach - Men's Basketball (Part-Time) at City Colleges of Chicago. Truman College's Athletic Department is looking for a 2nd Assistant Coach for the Men's Basketball Team. This position is responsible for assisting the head coach and assistant coach with organizing the basketball program, conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques. Responsibilities
Assists in recruiting student-athletes for participation in intercollegiate athletics. Cooperates with academic advisers to support the academic progress of the student-athlete. Assists players in reaching athletic potential through athletic training and leadership skills. Recruits, counsels and advises students with respect to athletic performance and personal development. Prepares student athletes for competition through planning and conducting well-organized practices and contests. Directs identification and recruitment of new players, including traveling to regional high school and club basketball events and showcases. Enforces and maintains an athletic program policy of educating and graduating student athletes. Works with the Athletic Director, Dean of Students, and other administrators to ensure academic eligibility for the sport. Plans and directs training of student athletes; assesses abilities and skill levels to determine team positions. Conducts in-season and off-season practices and conditioning programs including skills training and weight/conditioning training. Assists in ensuring compliance with NJCAA rules and regulations; monitors academic, conduct and physical requirements for each student athlete. Maintains records and statistics for mandatory reporting to the NJCAA and regional regulatory agencies. Contributes to professional development activities for Athletic Department personnel. Enforces the District/college’s academic, student and athletic code of conduct. Supervises student athletes during practice, contests, and travel. May drive college vehicles to and from contests. Communicates contest results to the Sports Information Assistant by 10:00 AM the next business day and provides information for publicity. Coordinates care and reporting of incidents and injuries to appropriate College and District personnel. Prepares a season summary and advocates for student honors within conference, region, and other governing bodies. Qualifications
Completion of an Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in Physical Education or related field, with 2-3 years of coaching and/or professional playing experience. Familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the sport. Coaching certification preferred. First Aid Certification and current CPR/AED certification preferred. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning and leadership skills. Ability to serve as a positive role model for young adults. Familiarity with NJCAA rules and regulations. Other Information
Salary: up to a $1,940 stipend per season. Offered salary determined based on sport and applicant's years of experience. Assistant Coaches are hired on a season-by-season basis. A reasonable effort is made to assure future coaching assignments to coaches with a history of successful academic and athletic performance at City Colleges of Chicago. All coaching assignments are conditioned on sufficient team membership. The 2nd Assistant Coach is expected to complete the season once it starts.
