JOB SUMMARY:
Instructor is responsible for teaching fundamental concepts and skills for effective public speaking: preparation and delivery of informative, persuasive, entertainment, and group presentations. Collaborating with and supporting department faculty. Ensuring the course meets the assigned goals of the Franciscan Core curriculum:
Demonstrate effective writing and speaking to communicate to diverse audiences. Demonstrate leadership and collaboration to build community.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
Follow the common course content template and use the Department approved and assigned textbook. Meet classes on scheduled dates during the assigned semester. Grade student projects and assignments in a timely manner. Constructively critique student presentations for improvement. Provide students with additional learning materials and opportunities. Meet the deadlines of the registrar’s office for grades, final exam dates/time and course enrollment verification. Meet classes on time and hold classes for their fully allotted time.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Master’s degree in related field OR Bachelor’s degree in related field with +3 years of professional experience 18 hours of coursework in rhetoric and/or public speaking at the Master’s level.
Experience
Experience teaching fundamental Communication or Speech Courses
Knowledge And Skills
Enthusiasm for teaching. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to create and foster a cooperative learning atmosphere for a diverse student population. Classroom management skills including organizing and presenting material, designing lessons, and creating activities that facilitate student learning. Effective at monitoring student attendance and providing needed support and encouragement. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and to follow instructions. Patience and flexibility.
