Hocking College invites applications for a full-time, 9-month faculty position in English Composition. The successful candidate will teach first-year composition and additional related writing/communication courses, contributing to the College’s mission of providing accessible, high-quality education that supports student success. The faculty member will employ innovative, student-centered pedagogy; support diverse learners, including first-generation and non-traditional students; and engage in departmental and institutional service. Instructional responsibilities may include face-to-face, online, hybrid, and evening/weekend courses (limited, but as needed). Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Teach assigned courses in first-year composition and additional related writing/communications studies, using effective, evidence-based pedagogy. Prepare syllabi, update course materials, and design student-centered learning experiences aligned with institutional outcomes. Provide regular feedback on student writing and maintain high standards of academic excellence. Advise students, maintain office hours, and provide academic support as needed. Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and program review activities. Contribute to departmental and college initiatives, committees, and service opportunities. Stay current with best practices in writing pedagogy, instructional technology, and culturally responsive teaching. Support the mission and values of Hocking College through teaching, service, and community engagement. Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric & Composition, Writing Studies, Technical Communication, Creative Writing, Linguistics, Literature, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. At least 18 graduate semester hours in English, Rhetoric & Composition, or closely related coursework. Demonstrated experience teaching college-level composition and writing (minimum of two years preferred, including at least one year in higher education). Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., syllabi, student evaluations, feedback on writing, or peer observations). Ability to teach across multiple modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid, day, evening, or weekend). Strong written and oral communication skills. Commitment to equity-minded and inclusive teaching practices that support diverse learners. Proficiency with instructional technologies, Microsoft Office, and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, or equivalent). Desired Qualifications

Terminal Degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or MFA) in English, Rhetoric & Composition, Writing Studies, or a closely related field. Graduate coursework in Rhetoric & Composition pedagogy. Experience in integrating the use of AI into an English Composition curriculum. Experience teaching developmental, multilingual, or technical writing in addition to first-year composition. Community college or open-access institution teaching experience. Familiarity with outcomes-based assessment and first-year writing program initiatives. Demonstrated record of service, curriculum development, or professional engagement in writing pedagogy. Evidence of innovative, student-centered teaching and use of culturally responsive pedagogy.
