The Audit Services Division is responsible for the review, analysis, and conduct of single or limited scope audits of businesses and/or individuals to determine compliance or non-compliance with Oklahoma and Federal tax laws and regulations. Auditors use generally accepted auditing and accounting principles to review financial documents, tax forms, business records and other relevant documents. Auditors conduct research and analysis and apply tax law using Internal Revenue Code and Oklahoma rules and statutes, as well as the agency’s procedures. Auditors prepare audit reports with documented recommendations for changes in policies or operating procedures, and adhere to confidentiality requirements for all tax information. The Auditor position supports the Audit Services Division by conducting fair and ethical single issue and limited scope audits of various tax returns. The primary function is to execute audits efficiently, ensuring adherence to the Internal Revenue Code and Oklahoma Tax Statutes and Rules while maintaining accuracy in calculations and procedures. Duties and Responsibilities
General Duties Create, print, review and distribute audit correspondence items Review Internal Revenue and Oklahoma tax statutes Provide written and verbal communication while delivering excellent customer service to taxpayers Other duties as assigned Withholding Tax Ensure taxpayer compliance with Withholding tax statutes and rules by reviewing and auditing withholding tax returns submitted to the Oklahoma Tax Commission Review two areas of non-compliance: underreporting and non-reporting wages or withholding Analyze and audit withholding financial records, including the withholding return, internal and external withholding reports, OESC data, and compile/submit audit review packets Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Auditing methodology, techniques, and theories Generally accepted auditing rules and procedures Bookkeeping practices and standards Financial statements, ledgers, journals and reports Federal and state income tax forms Modern computer technology related to accounting systems Skills in Written and verbal communication Excellent customer service Interpersonal communication and relationship management Prioritization Problem solving and critical thinking Using various technology programs and applications Ability to Review and analyze accounting records and business practices Prepare audit work papers, reports and recommendations Establish and maintain effective working relationships Communicate effectively Work independently with limited instruction/supervision Complete or participate in various audits and required reports, and carry out complex auditing procedures Perform a wide range of audit functions and work independently Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements consist of: Associate degree in accounting, finance, business, or public administration; or related field Or at least two (2) years of professional experience in auditing, accounting, finance, or related field Or an equivalent combination of education and experience that equals an associate degree or the required amount of professional experience Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with the following qualifications: Proficient with Microsoft Suite applications More than two (2) years of professional experience in auditing, accounting, finance, or related field Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or public administration; or related field Physical Demands
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate computer equipment; ability to see/read on screen and printed material; ability to hear and understand speech; ability to lift up to 15 pounds; duties performed in an office environment with moderate noise. Special Requirements
OTC work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm, with potential minor flexibility. Telework may be required based on agency needs; if applicable, applicant must be willing and able to work both on-site and telework at an off-site location.
