Overview About The Role

Shipcom is seeking a detail-oriented and compliance-focused

Inventory Accountant

with strong

NetSuite

expertise to support our government contracting operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring inventory accuracy, cost compliance under

FAR Part 31 , and readiness for DCAA and DCMA audits. The ideal candidate brings both accounting rigor and systems knowledge, with experience navigating the complexities of inventory in a government contracting environment. You will work cross-functionally with operations, contracts, and finance teams to maintain accurate records, reconcile inventory balances, and ensure timely, compliant reporting.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Maintain and reconcile inventory transactions in NetSuite, including receipts, issues, transfers, adjustments, and assemblies.

Ensure proper accounting for direct, indirect, and unallowable inventory-related costs in accordance with FAR 31.205.

Reconcile the inventory subledger to the general ledger and project/job cost reports monthly.

Track and report on government-furnished property (GFP) and contractor-acquired property (CAP) in accordance with DFARS 252.245-7002.

Monitor and maintain inventory valuation (e.g., standard or average cost), supporting financial and job cost accuracy.

Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts; investigate variances and implement corrective actions.

Collaborate with operations and procurement teams to ensure accurate material cost tracking and work-in-process (WIP) visibility.

Support preparation of Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS), Schedule B, and other required reporting related to materials and inventory.

Assist in responding to DCAA or DCMA audits with documentation of cost allocations, inventory controls, and reconciliation support.

Create and maintain NetSuite saved searches and reports to monitor inventory balances, turnover, and compliance metrics.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in a government contracting or manufacturing environment.

Hands-on experience with NetSuite ERP, specifically in the Inventory, Projects, and Cost Accounting modules.

Strong understanding of FAR, DFARS, and CAS requirements applicable to material and inventory costs.

Experience preparing audit support and/or cost schedules for DCAA or DCMA reviews.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, reconciliations).

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

CPA, CPA candidate, or CGFM a plus.

Familiarity with Incurred Cost Submissions (ICE Model) and Schedule B reporting.

Experience with serialized inventory, WIP, and inventory valuation analysis.

Working knowledge of internal controls over government property and inventory systems audits.
