Overview
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Professional: This role is responsible for assembling and conducting the appropriate level Safety Review Board (SRB), and communicating environmental health and safety risks, issues and incidents up the chain of command. The EHS site support representative must have a solid working knowledge of OSHA programs such as machine guarding, lock out tag out, fall protection, hearing protection, etc and be able to apply that knowledge to Bell operations. This position is onsite in Coventry, Rhode Island.
What you’ll be doing as an EHS Professional
Consult and participate in resolution and corrective action for OSHA recordable injuries and first aides.
Monitor and strive to improve Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR) and Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) goals and targets.
Drive improvements to the Safety Management System.
Support and advise facility personnel and leadership regarding statutory and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate and consult with Environmental subject matter experts regarding air, water, waste, and industrial hygiene to ensure compliance with Bell, city state and federal regulations.
Lead and develop safety advocates to enable them to take responsibility for EHS related issues. Mentor and advise other employees as needed.
Develop and train personnel as required.
Partner with and provide direction to facilities, engineering and manufacturing regarding EHS requirements for current factories, future factories, and equipment and facility changes within the assigned center of excellence.
Audit and validate performance to plan and adherence to requirements.
Assess risk and advise leadership on actions necessary to achieve compliance.
Advise site management on EHS issues and recommend actions and if necessary, issue instructions to cease unsafe activities.
Walk the shop floor and assess risk to compliance. Assess ergonomic risks.
Participate in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
Review and recommend revisions to policies and procedures as needed.
Collaborate with and support EHS team.
What you’ll need to be successful
Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in EHS, engineering, or applied science
At least 2 years of work experience in Environmental Health and Safety
Working knowledge of ISO45001, OSHA, federal and state requirements preferred.
Previous experience in a manufacturing or EH&S environment
Knowledge and ability to understand and analyze accident, near miss, risk assessments, safety inspections, and safety audits
Efficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word etc.)
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs., and to team lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to perform prolonged kneeling, squatting, sitting, crawling, and climbing stairs, ladders and work stands
Ability to stand for extended periods during the entire duration of shift
Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling small components and tools
Flexibility to bend, stoop, and crouch as required for tasks
Good vision, including the ability to focus on small details and identify defects
Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding progress and potential issues
