Overview

Law and the U.S. Constitution in Global History (4 units) – USC Gould School of Law is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach an undergraduate law class, Law and the U.S. Constitution in Global History. The instructor will begin work this fall 2025 to develop the course and will teach the course during the spring 2026 semester (Jan 12 to May 1, 2026; final exam period May 6–13). The class is scheduled on campus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 11:50 AM. The schedule is firm, so candidates must be able to teach on campus at the scheduled time. Candidates should have a strong legal professional background with experience in the subject matter and preferably teaching experience. The course will be taught exclusively to enrolled undergraduate students. A PhD or Juris Doctor degree is required. Course Description

This is a course about law and constitutionalism within and beyond the United States. By examining key constitutional moments, students will explore how legal meaning changes over time and learn about the global influence of the U.S. Constitution. One of the insights the course seeks to convey is the extent to which legal ideas have crossed and re-crossed borders with an approach that is both comparative and dynamic. This class may be postponed to a later semester if fewer than 6 students enroll. Spring 2026 Academic Calendar

Develop the course in fall 2025 and teach the course in spring 2026 on campus. Deliver lectures and lead discussions aligned with the course description. Assess student performance and manage final examinations within the scheduled exam period. Qualifications

Strong legal professional background with subject matter expertise and preferably teaching experience. PhD or Juris Doctor degree required. USC reserves adjunct appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time and may require completion of mandated trainings as a condition of employment. Trainings include Harassment Prevention, Integrity and Accountability Code, Information Security, Workplace Violence Prevention, and other trainings as required by the position. Training requirements may be updated; refer to USC policies for details. Base salary range for this position is $2,433.66 – $12,250 per semester. Base salary decisions consider factors such as scope and responsibilities, units per course, work experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, and applicable laws and policies.
