Overview
Adjunct Lecturer in Law - Intellectual Property and Technology USC Gould School of Law seeks a part-time lecturer to teach an undergraduate law class, Intellectual Property and Technology. The instructor will begin work this fall 2025 to develop the course and will teach the course in Spring 2026 (January 12 – May 1, 2026; final exam period May 6–13). Lectures are on-campus, once a week for 3 hours and 20 minutes, on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 8:20 PM. The schedule is firm and candidates must be able to teach on campus at the scheduled time. Responsibilities
Develop and teach the course Intellectual Property and Technology for undergraduate students. Deliver on-campus lectures weekly during the Spring 2026 semester. Manage course logistics, including standard academic calendar and final examinations. Qualifications
PhD or Juris Doctor degree required. Strong legal professional background with experience in intellectual property and technology topics. Experience teaching is preferred. Course will be taught exclusively to enrolled undergraduate students. Course Description
Intellectual property forms the backbone of the modern economy. The course provides students with an understanding of how American law protects and facilitates the creation of intellectual property. Topics include the origins of American IP law, policies underlying the law, basics of patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secrets, and current controversies in IP law. Students will learn about copyrights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, industry contracts, and other legal instruments relevant to their careers. Schedule and Calendar
Spring 2026 classes begin Monday, January 12. Holidays and recesses as listed in the Undergraduate Academic Calendar Spring 2026. Classes end Friday, May 1; Study Days May 2–5; Exams May 6–13. Important Notes
The class may be postponed to a later semester if fewer than 6 students enroll. USC reserves the Adjunct appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time and requires completion of mandated trainings (Harassment Prevention, Integrity and Accountability Code Training, Information Security, Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, and other relevant trainings).
