Assistant Professor of Spanish - Department of Languages and Literatures
Lehman College, of The City University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Spanish, with a preferred specialization in Central American and/or Caribbean literatures and cultures. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Spanish language courses at different levels, as well as Hispanic and Latin American cultures, and survey literature courses. We invite applications from candidates who specialize in Central American and/or Caribbean literatures and cultures and have proven experience in teaching Spanish to diverse groups. In addition to a strong commitment to teaching, the successful candidate is expected to show a record of publications and demonstrate the potential to maintain an active research agenda. The successful candidate will also be expected to perform administrative service for the department and the college, carrying out various duties such as student advising and placement, committee work, and curriculum development. QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Ph.D. in Spanish, Latin American Studies, or related disciplines preferred at the time of hiring. Demonstrated expertise in Central American and/or Caribbean Literatures and Cultures. Evidence of effective teaching of Spanish at the college level. A record of publications and/ or potential for scholarly research and publication. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service. COMPENSATION Assistant Professor salary: $90,838 - $102,017. Salaries are commensurate with education and experience, and are subject to the Professional Staff Congress-CUNY salary schedule.
