Director of Music Ministries Herndon UMC

Herndon United Methodist Church (Herndon UMC) is seeking a part-time Director to provide musical support to worship services and other musical opportunities, enhancing worship and our music ministries. Music ministry ensembles include a 20-voice all-volunteer adult choir, a festival choir performing for larger events in our church and community, an intergenerational ukulele ensemble, a music theatre program, and more. Sanctuary instruments include a Baldwin grand piano, an Ahlborn-Galanti three manual electric organ, and five-octave Schulmerich handbells. We enjoy a rich partnership with area music ensembles and local schools to enhance our worship and outreach, and we are seeking to grow as a multicultural worship community. The primary duties of the Director of Music Ministry are to lead and coordinate all music ministries and musical partnerships for Herndon UMC. Working with the pastors and other worship leaders, the Director helps shape the worship experience, integrating music with the themes and tone desired for each service. As a church leader, the Director fosters a worship-centered culture among choirs and ensembles, guiding volunteers to see their role as leading in worship rather than performing. The Director also collaborates with musicians inside the Herndon UMC community and in the greater Herndon community to provide opportunities for musical growth and missional service “so that everyone may know God’s love and grow in Spirit-filled relationships.”
