Base pay range: $220,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr

The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California is recruiting an Associate Dean for Student Affairs. This leadership role reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education and provides overall leadership, vision, strategy, and oversight of student affairs and student services. The Associate Dean has authority and responsibility for overseeing all personnel, policies, and activities related to effective management of student services, in alignment with the KSOM mission and culture. The Associate Dean serves as a primary student advocate, responds to student needs, and provides resources to assist students throughout their education. The role ensures activities related to student affairs comply with accreditation standards. The Associate Dean works closely with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and other Office of Medical Education administrators. This is a full-time position with a maximum of 20 percent clinical practice.
Responsibilities
Oversee student affairs programs including career advising, wellness, and academic support services.
Advocate for student concerns with faculty and administration.
Serve as the first point of contact for personal, financial, and educational issues; manage a triage process to connect students with appropriate resources.
Provide cultural, social, wellness, and recreational offerings to enhance the student experience.
Monitor student reports of mistreatment and direct students to relevant resources and policies, including ADA guidelines.
Advise student government and coordinate activities of other recognized student organizations and programs.
Work with elected student leaders, providing leadership training and mentoring; meet monthly with student leadership to address concerns.
Monitor data for students with academic and professionalism difficulties; offer support to those students.
Maintain student satisfaction with the Office of Student Affairs and its resources.
Support and mentor the career development of the assistant dean, directors, and administrative staff who report directly to the Associate Dean.
Participate in committees monitoring student progress through medical school years.
Oversee the international studies committee and ensure students meet university criteria for international travel.
Represent the MD program at meetings of the University and Health Sciences Student Affairs Councils.
Serve as the Student Affairs Institutional Representative to the AAMC.
Review the Student Handbook annually to ensure policies are up to date.
Prepare Medical Student Performance Evaluations for graduating students.
Oversee the use of the Electronic Residency Application System for the School of Medicine and serve as the primary contact for NRMP and other match programs; counsel students on match lists.
Manage the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program for unmatched students; select and manage faculty advisors and coordinate with unmatched students.
Oversee the office budget for student affairs and collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs on all duties listed above.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess an M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. with decanal experience in medical education from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years’ experience in student affairs. Candidates should have broad administrative and supervisory experience with an in-depth understanding of accreditation requirements for undergraduate medical programs (LCME). Familiarity with state and federal regulations related to student records and student rights, privacy, and safety (e.g., FERPA, ADA, Title IX, Campus Safety & Security Act) is preferred. The position requires leadership, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
The annual base salary range is $220,000-$250,000. USC considers factors such as responsibilities, experience, education, skills, internal equity, and applicable laws when making offers.
