LAND USE TECHNICIAN I

– The County of San Diego Planning & Development Services announces an outstanding career opportunity. This classification is eligible for hire at Step 1, $54,912.00 annually. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5. Interviews will take place the week of November 17, 2025, and job offers will be made after interviews are complete. Future Salary Increases:

June 2026 – 5.80% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 2.30% Market Adjustment); June 2027 – 5.30% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 2.30% Market Adjustment). Organization:

Responsibilities

The Land Use Technician I will perform para-professional and technical work in providing information to members of the public, representatives of outside agencies, and County employees regarding laws, codes, ordinances, and requirements that apply to the construction and use of structures and land use. Daily activities include working with the public to review required paperwork and approvals so that construction permits can be issued. Attention to detail is important as this position works with internal and external customers. Hiring Process and Timeline

Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date. If you are not selected for this interview process, you may have the opportunity to compete for future vacancies. Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of full-time paid technical experience in land use, architecture, zoning, planning, building inspection, surveying, construction, engineering, environmental studies, or a closely related field; OR One (1) year of full-time experience as a Land Use Aide with the County of San Diego. Note: The successful completion of two (2) years or 50 units of coursework offered by an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in urban planning, geography, building inspection, construction technology, environmental studies, engineering, mathematics, or a closely related field can substitute for the experience requirement listed above.
