Molecular Virology Lead Scientist

to support our government customer located in Fort Detrick, Frederick, MD. DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform research on emerging viruses, particularly viruses in the Bunyavirales Order, in BSL-3 and BSL-4 containment. Research areas include medical countermeasure development, molecular virology, host responses to viral infection, and pathogenesis. Design and conduct research projects, analyze data on host-viral interactions, and report findings. Collaborate with scientists on in vivo, in vitro, and ex vivo studies to evaluate medical countermeasures, including planning and analyzing complex studies. Contribute to writing animal protocols for approval by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Support animal studies by administering anesthesia, performing phlebotomy, necropsy, and treatments on infected small animals, and analyzing data. Perform and analyze Nanostring and Luminex assays, develop novel assays, and interpret cellular signaling pathways. Conduct immunological procedures such as ELISA, Western Blot, flow cytometry, PRNT, and IHC. Assist in preparing labs for inspections and seek funding through grants and proposals, aiming for at least three submissions annually. Prepare technical reports, author manuscripts, and present research findings at conferences, with potential travel. Serve as a mentor for BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 staff and provide monthly technical reports. REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Minimum of a M.S. or PhD in Virology or a related field from an accredited institution. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience with RNA/DNA/protein preparation and virologic assays. Knowledge of screening robotics and programming is highly desirable. At least 4 years of specialized research and training. Ability to obtain and maintain DoJ Security Risk Assessment approval. Willingness to participate in periodic drug screening. Ability to work under BSL-4 conditions and wear respiratory protection. REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

U.S. Citizen Must pass NACI background check. Willing to work in BSL-3/4 labs and enroll in BPRP and CS-PRP programs.
