Responsibilities
Transport, operate and maintain the Retherm (thermal trays) cart and its companion cart.
Provide individualized meal service to every patient and assemble patient meal trays following diet orders to ensure diet accuracy.
Consult with nursing staff to maintain accurate patient information and collect patient meal trays.
Follow established sanitation procedures for cleaning the Retherm Cart, companion cart, serving utensils, trays, dishes and miscellaneous items.
Maintain and deliver nourishment supplies as ordered to patient floor units; follow guidelines for food items in patient units.
Record food, refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily to ensure food safety.
Work independently and with others to ensure patient meal satisfaction; mentor and train new employees as needed.
Perform duties such as greeting patients, communicating menu choices, matching utensils to items, and delivering meals; ensure patient satisfaction and collect trays after meals.
Prepare cart items for service, maintain correct temperatures, and notify supervisor of equipment malfunctions.
Consult with nursing staff regarding changes to patient needs; refer complaints or problems to the Patient Services Manager or Dietary Supervisor.
Follow infection control, safety procedures, and HACCP guidelines; adhere to hospital behavioral standards and uniform requirements.
Record and maintain accurate patient diet information using Computrition software; provide clerical support as needed.
Deliver nourishments and floor stock; rotate stock and manage cooling temperatures; maintain clean storage areas.
Prepare special infant and adult formulas, shakes and tube feedings using a commercial blender; assist with orientation and training of new staff.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
Preferred: minimum of two years’ experience in food service / customer service environment. Patient feeding experience with all age groups and diet experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of basic nutrition, diets, recipes, food preparation and service. Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to follow diet orders accurately.
Other:
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and transport carts without assistance; ability to walk and stand for extended periods; satisfy Fit Test requirements for N95 respirator; comply with federal, state and local sanitation regulations and JCAHO requirements.
Education / Certifications
Education: High school diploma or GED is preferred.
