Postdoctoral Researcher (Offshore Wind Energy)
The Offshore Wind Energy research comprises two main areas: (1) quantification of the uncertainty and estimates of the structural reliability of the structural components under extreme ocean environments and (2) development of computational fluid dynamics models for the design and optimization of turbine blades. The selected candidate is expected to have the necessary background, responsible for the above two research topics, and help us expand through grant proposals. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding. Responsibilities
Develop necessary computational models for blades and structures related to offshore wind energy and conduct necessary literature review. Develop tools and conduct investigations to study uncertainties and structural reliability of the structural components. Increase center's research productivity by developing and submitting new proposals for funding and publishing high quality journal articles, and grant reports. Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students with research projects and encourage them to present and publish. Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research, well organized, capable of multi-tasking, and has excellent documentation skills. Perform other duties as needed to assist the center director and the research team. Required Education And Experience
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (structure), Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering. No prior experience needed. Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment. Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position. Preferred Education And Experience
Experiences in MATLAB, python, Orcaflex, FAST, and Abaqus are highly desired. Experiences in probabilistic modeling and uncertainty analyses are preferred. Demonstrated experience with either writing or assisting with grant proposals and high-quality record of publications is preferred. Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams of faculty, staff, and students. Prairie View A&M University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/Veterans/Disability Employer.
