Job Description
The Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the position of Agricultural/Weights & Measures Inspector I. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting orchards, farms, nurseries, mills, apiaries, and plant shipments for agricultural pests and diseases, as well as ensuring adequate plant pest quarantine measures are taken. Key responsibilities include: Inspecting agricultural products for pests and diseases Monitoring pesticide use by commercial applicators Inspecting and enforcing agricultural product standards Inspecting produce cases, nursery stock, commodities, and other packaged goods Inspecting, testing, sealing, or condemning weighing and measuring devices Issuing inspection certificates Performing test purchases or sales to verify accurate weight or measure Gathering and compiling information and preparing reports Maintaining records and preparing reports on inspections, pest control activities, and related matters The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline such as agricultural science, biological science, chemical science, physical science, mathematics, and/or statistics, and one year of experience in agricultural or weights and measures inspection. A valid State of California weights & measures license and a valid State of California agricultural license are required. A valid California Class C Driver License is also required. This position requires frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. Examination Content
This examination will consist of a multiple-choice and/or simulation assessment(s) covering customer focus, learning potential, responsibility, working with information, verbal ability, and professional/technical expertise. The passing score for the assessment part is 70%. Candidates who pass the assessment(s) will be placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve months.
