Dayton, OH About the Role We are seeking a Facility Security Officer (FSO) to support the AFWERX Technical Operations Branch, the innovation engine of the Department of the Air Force (DAF). AFWERX accelerates agile and affordable capabilities by bridging emerging tech innovators with Airmen and Guardians to solve national defense challenges. You’ll play a key role in ensuring robust security compliance, classified information protection, and facility security in support of mission-critical DoD innovation initiatives. This is a high-impact position requiring a proactive, detail-oriented FSO with strong understanding of NISPOM, RMF, DD Form 254s, and DoD/USAF security directives. Serve as primary security liaison for AFRL/RGOS on matters involving Information Protection (IP), Physical Security, and AT/FP. Manage and maintain security procedures for classified/controlled information and secure facilities (NIPR, DREN environments). Support compliance with DoD, USAF, AFMC, and ITAR regulations—including management of foreign national access protocols. Support preparation, coordination, and distribution of DD Form 254s, SOW/SOO security input, SCGs, and other program security documentation. Receive and safeguard classified material; maintain secure storage facilities and respond to alarms in accordance with USAF and AFRL OIs. Conduct independent security assessments, support RMF activities, and advise senior leaders on cybersecurity posture. Participate in security working groups, program IPTs, and provide technical guidance across multi-disciplinary teams. Assist with flight test program security (manned/unmanned platforms) and develop classification/declassification guides. What You Bring 3–5+ years of experience in a DoD security, FSO, or IP role. In-depth knowledge of NISPOM, RMF, ITAR, and AF/DoD security policy. Experience preparing DD254s and working with classified contracts. Familiarity with AFWERX, AFRL, or defense innovation environments a plus. Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills. FSO Certification or ability to obtain (ISSA/FSO Course/ISSA Level I+). Prior work supporting AFWERX, AFRL, or other USAF innovation programs. Experience with cloud-based secure systems (e.g. IaaS, PaaS, SaaS). Working knowledge of CUI, SAP, or SCI security environments.
