The Network Engineer is the mid-level to advanced career position in the organization and is responsible for all aspects of the network for Kern Health Systems (KHS) including design, implementation and maintenance of the underlying technical architecture. The incumbent should be proficient in various systems, networks, security principles, telecommunications theories, architectures, designs, and implementation methods. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee or perform technical support in the administration and maintenance of network hardware, firewalls, network security devices, internet connectivity, VPN, client/server applications, telephone systems, and all other related information and office automation systems and networking hardware or software. Manage the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all routers, network appliances, layer-2 and layer-3 switches, and fiber switches. Help to define KHS’ internet security using network firewalls, internet content filtering software, intrusion prevention systems, and other current network security techniques using the latest technology. Review and provide summary data of all WAN and LAN connectivity using network traffic analysis software and firewall logs. Assist in the management and design of firewalls and management of virtual networks and DR connectivity. Install, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot all KHS networking hardware and software to include the network system OS upgrades, firewall updates, and internet content filters. Administer the corporate VoIP network, configuring, maintaining, and upgrading the VoIP infrastructure, supporting applications, and network hardware. Assist with Cisco UCCX IVR campaigns and updates. Maintenance of the UC platform, utilizing Cisco UCCX and CUCM products. Monitor and maintain all network and system logs for performance, security, and troubleshooting to include routers, switches, VPN access, firewalls, and other software or hardware as needed. Work and communicate effectively with the various professionals throughout the organization. Proficiency must be demonstrated with the various Windows and network and telephony platforms, and security methodology in architecture, design, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field AND six years of progressive experience in a senior level technical capacity for a medium to large organization with a structured IT department. OR Ten years of progressive experience in a senior level technical capacity for a medium-to-large organization with a structured IT department. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Collaborate and maintain positive business relationships with external departments and vendors regularly. Monitor and maintain core network performance and design improvements when needed. Review, write, or modify basic scripts to resolve performance problems and automate administration tasks. Review and manage all documentation and diagrams for the physical and logical network, various client/server solutions, disaster recovery efforts, and other areas as needed.
