Lila Sciences is seeking a dedicated Instrument Driver Developer to join our team. What You’ll Be Building
Driver Development: Develop robust software drivers to enable communication between robotics and automation hardware (e.g., robotic arms, liquid handlers, sensors) and the control software, ensuring reliable and efficient hardware integration. System Integration: Seamlessly integrate drivers with existing automation frameworks and robotics control systems, ensuring compatibility and stability across multiple platforms. Testing and Debugging: Perform rigorous testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of drivers to identify, isolate, and rectify performance issues, bugs, and compatibility challenges. Technical Documentation: Create, update, and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for driver interfaces, APIs, and integration methods, facilitating ease of use by internal teams and end-users. Collaboration and Support: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, product managers, and end-users, providing technical support and resolving integration challenges promptly. What You’ll Need to Succeed
Proficiency in Python programming is essential. Experience with hardware integration and device driver development, especially in robotics or automation contexts. Solid understanding of operating systems such as Linux or Windows. Demonstrated ability in debugging and problem-solving hardware-software integration issues. Strong analytical thinking and a structured approach to troubleshooting and resolving complex technical problems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency with version control systems, especially Git. Bonus Points For
Experience in developing software for laboratory automation systems or robotics used in life sciences, pharmaceutical, or similar industries. Familiarity with event-driven architectures, embedded systems, or real-time operating systems (RTOS). Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD, automated testing pipelines). Previous exposure to technologies such as Kafka, gRPC, Protobuf, Akka, or ROS. Interest or experience in compiler technologies, runtime optimization, or integrating complex algorithms into production systems. Experience working directly with end-users (e.g., scientists, laboratory technicians), using feedback to drive product improvements. Background or exposure in user-centered or human factors design principles. We’re All In
