Job Summary
Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) is seeking a Power Plant Engineer to support McMeekin Station & Saluda Hydroelectric Station. This Engineer shall work with plant Operations and Maintenance to address chronic maintenance issues and manage capital improvement projects to improve station reliability. This role is inclusive of reporting responsibilities for NERC checklists, Environmental Compliance and Generating Availability Data. McMeekin Station is a natural gas-fired power plant located near Lake Murray in Columbia, South Carolina. As part of Dominion Energy South Carolina’s generation fleet, McMeekin plays a critical role in delivering reliable electricity to the region. The facility features steam turbine units and advanced control systems, offering engineers hands-on experience with modern power generation technology and opportunities to work on projects that impact grid reliability and operational efficiency. Saluda Hydroelectric Station, also on Lake Murray, is a historic hydroelectric facility that utilizes the Saluda River to produce renewable energy. In addition to power generation, Saluda Station is central to dam safety, water resource management, and environmental stewardship. Engineers at Saluda gain exposure to hydroelectric operations, dam safety programs, and collaborative work that supports both sustainability and community needs. Job Activities
Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to operations and maintenance departments for corrective maintenance tasks and capital upgrade projects. Assist and participate in technical troubleshooting. Engage with subject matter experts and work with plant operations and maintenance to resolve issues. Capital project administrative tasks, such as financial tracking & spending forecasts. Develop and update budget and cash flows for assigned projects. Manage and maintain spreadsheets utilized for recording and reporting environmental data. Monthly Reporting duties such as NERC compliance checklists and Power Generation Results. Professional interaction with power station personnel and with individuals from other internal departments. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications): Associate Engineer : Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 0-2 years of relevant engineering work experience Engineer : Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 2+ years of relevant engineering work experience Senior Engineer : Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 5+ years of relevant engineering experience Staff Engineer : Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 8+ years of relevant engineering experience The selected candidate must have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience Oral and written communication, including technical writing. Computer skills and application of software programs. Proficiency in MS Excel and Word is required. Planning, project and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects and tasks; ability to work within a team environment. Plan, direct, and supervise projects, develop technical scope of work specifications; manage contractors to execute work. Develop knowledge of plant operating systems and processes; work independently or in a team environment. Engineering experience at an operating power or other industrial plant is preferred. Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering is required. Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program. Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Engineering in Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is not required to apply for this position but is preferred. Engineer, Senior Engineer, and Staff Engineer require the EIT. Valid driver's license with a safe driving record. Working Conditions
Plant engineers at McMeekin Station and Saluda Hydroelectric Station must be prepared to work in environments that are sometimes loud, dirty, and physically demanding. While much of the role involves office-based tasks and technical analysis, engineers regularly enter areas with operating machinery, heavy equipment, and industrial processes. This means exposure to high noise levels, dust, grease, oil, and other elements common to power generation facilities. Work may also require time outdoors, in confined spaces, and in conditions that are hot, cold, or otherwise challenging. Adaptability and a willingness to work in these environments are essential for success in this role. Test Description
