Overview
The Associate Scientist provides laboratory support in defining optimal particle properties of drug substances as it relates to chemical manufacturing and formulation into pharmaceutical products and is responsible for writing sections of reports for regulatory submissions. The position is based in Groton, CT (USA). Responsibilities
Support multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate with colleagues to define and implement API particle characterization activities according to project timelines. Conduct physical and surface characterization of powders of pharmaceutical relevance, including particle size and shape as well as surface energy and surface roughness. Collaborate with colleagues in Medicinal Chemistry, Formulation and Biopharmaceutics to define and implement screening and characterization strategies aligned with producing desired crystalline morphologies. Solve scientific problems using contemporary Materials Science experimental techniques. Contribute to the development of new scientific approaches and knowledge within the global Materials Science organization. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science/Engineering. Authorization to work in the country indefinitely without need for sponsorship. Experience with solving Materials Science problems, e.g., particle characterization using experimental approaches and team collaboration. Experience with characterization techniques: particle size, shape, surface energy, surface roughness, spectroscopy, microscopy. In-depth understanding of the physical and particle properties needed for drug substance manufacture and formulation into drug product. Experience in crystallization and solid-state characterization (such as x-ray powder diffraction, polarized light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, NMR, etc). Experience using electronic notebook for documentation. Knowledgeable of GLP and chemical lab safety protocols. Good organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills are required. A strong interest and motivation to learn new technologies and concepts is expected. Additional Information
