Overview
Tax Senior, Core Tax Services at BDO USA. The Tax Senior is responsible for utilizing research skills, applying tax foundational knowledge to understand potential tax issues, gathering client information necessary for filing, participating in tax planning, recognizing and communicating potential risks, preparing tax accrual workpapers, and working with tax software applications to complete tax returns for review. The role may supervise and review the work of Core Tax Services Associates. Responsibilities
Tax Compliance: Ensure client compliance with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens; ensure compliance with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM); manage tax process and procedures with quality; respond to preparer questions and coordinate engagement from onset; conduct detailed reviews on returns and prepare review notes; raise potential tax issues; meet internal deadlines; identify book-to-tax differences. Research: Identify when research is needed; clearly frame issues and report analysis; apply Firm and professional standards for preparation of WTA and tax returns. ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals: Apply Firm policies and TQM; prepare provision workpapers; discuss with team members; identify and discuss uncertain positions; review and prepare footnote disclosures per 740-10-55. Tax Consulting: Develop, recommend, and implement efficient methods to maximize client benefits and reduce current and future taxes; identify consulting opportunities to reduce client tax liability; support client projects; gather information for controversy work; document significant tax positions with proper memoranda and arrange archival in firm systems. Strategy Development: Propose new or improved ideas to improve client position or Firm efficiency; may prepare studies of tax implications and present alternative courses of action. Other duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise Core Tax Services Associates; provide performance feedback; mentor Associates. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics required, OR bachelor’s degree in another field with CPA certification; Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred. Two (2) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience preferred; industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred; prior basic supervisory experience preferred. CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred; other related professional certifications also preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with tax research databases and tax compliance software preferred. Solid verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow instructions; ability to prepare simple tax returns; strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills; ability to work well in a team; ability to delegate appropriately and train others.
