About The Role
We’re seeking a dynamic and technically strong
Assistant Controller
to join a leadership team in Denver. This is a high-impact role with the opportunity to step into a broader leadership position over time. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and will provide hands-on support across all core accounting functions.
This is an ideal position for someone who’s worn many hats, isn’t afraid to dig into complex issues, and thrives in a collaborative, values-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the Assistant Controller, managing daily accounting operations including debits/credits, assets/liabilities, and general ledger integrity Lead and improve processes around prepaids, capitalization, and deferred expenses Oversee monthly close, conduct variance analysis, and prepare accurate financial reporting packages Support cost accounting initiatives and collaborate with project teams on job costing accuracy Ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and audit readiness Proactively research complex accounting and legal compliance matters to support business decisions Mentor accounting team members and act as a strong second-in-command to the Controller
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA is a plus! 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within construction related industries Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity as an Assistant Controller or similar role Adept at navigating legal and compliance matters related to accounting operations Confident, approachable, and collaborative—an Assistant Controller who leads by example
