The Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) is responsible for generating residential mortgage business through proactive outreach, relationship development, and member & referrals. Operating as a commission-based professional, the MLO represents the credit union’s values while helping members achieve homeownership through tailored mortgage solutions. This role requires strong sales aptitude, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of mortgage lending regulations and products.

Essential Duties Originate first mortgage loans by developing and maintaining relationships with members, realtors, contractors/builders, financial advisors, and other referral sources. Collaborate with credit union branches and staff to identify and pursue mortgage lending opportunities. Conduct initial consultations, analyze member financial information, and recommend suitable mortgage products. Accurately and timely complete loan applications, disclosures, and required documentation. Guide members through the mortgage process with clear communication, transparency, and excellent service. Partner with processors and underwriters to ensure efficient loan processing and closings. Monitor workflow to ensure deadlines are met and service expectations are exceeded. Maintain strong knowledge of credit union mortgage products, rates, and underwriting guidelines. Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations. Achieve or exceed individual production goals and contribute to department growth. Represent the credit union at community and industry events to promote mortgage services. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred. Minimum of 3 years of work-related experience is required, with demonstrated experience in residential mortgage lending or loan origination. Proven track record of self-sourced loan production and business development. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently, maintaining self-motivation and accountability to meet and exceed performance goals. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities. Proficient with mortgage origination systems (LOS), CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office. Through knowledge of credit union loan products and applicable policies preferred. Demonstrated excellent communication and listening skills. Excellent organization and time management skills. Able to operate related computer applications. Must be highly motivated, self-starter and work autonomously. Proven success is working in a high-volume, fast paced environment. ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY The incumbent is in a non-confined office type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. The position includes driving to MCCU branches which includes exposure to the outside weather elements and moving mechanical parts. MENTAL DEMANDS The incumbent in this position must be able to accommodate to reading documents or instruments, detailed work, problem solving, member and vendor contact, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, stress, multiple concurrent tasks, and constant interruptions.
