Position Description Associate Professor/Professor - Vice Chair of Research, Family Medicine - Milwaukee, WI
This position will envision, lead, manage, and deliver a high quality research program that aligns with the Department of Family and Community Medicine's (DFCM) strategic goals & objectives, driving innovation and informed decision-making locally and beyond.
Responsibilities
Grow the research mission, increase external funding, and broadly support family & community medicine research
Participate as a member of the DFCM Executive Team
Contribute to goal setting/development, annual strategic planning, budgeting, and incentive structure development
Develop and sustain robust lines of research & funding
Oversee faculty & research staff managing research functions, lead research facilitators at local sites, and mentor faculty
Incorporate work of the DFCM Center for Healthy Communities & Research as a consistent & aligned part of overall research program
Serve as liaison to major research entities across MCW, such as the CTSI, Office of Research, Office of Community Engagement, and other MCW departments
Maximize DFCM research opportunities provided by MCW's Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin (AHW) Endowment
Step in, as requested, for Department Chair
Cultivate a culture of inquiry for faculty & learners, and work with other Vice Chairs to promote scholarship & publication
Promote recognition of faculty within their area, e.g., nominating people for awards, making their work visible
Be a role model—an active researcher on own projects—producing results, interacting with other researchers
Provide high-level direction & mentoring for researchers, including establishing pathways for becoming research-focused faculty
Develop, propose, and oversee research dashboard metrics to monitor & improve the research enterprise
Time allotted: 70% (in addition, 30% clinical)

Position Requirements Required:
MD, DO, or foreign medical equivalent
Board certification in Family Medicine (ABFM or AOA)
WI medical licensure (or eligibility for)
Proven track record of research & scholarly activity
Demonstrated history of obtaining & sustaining grant funding (particularly federal grants)
Experience in leadership, mentorship, & working with research teams
Experience in ensuring compliance with policies & regulations
Preferred:
Research or academic fellowship, or mentored experience in a research-robust family medicine department
Experience with managing budgets and overseeing departmental initiatives
Experience with practice-based research networks (PBRNs), or similar collaborative research initiatives
Membership experience/involvement with family medicine research organizations (e.g. NAPCRG)
