Overview

The University of Virginia’s Department of Chemistry invites applications for a tenure-track position in chemistry with a focus on neuroscience or the brain. The appointment is expected to begin August 10, 2026 and is part of UVA’s Grand Challenge Research Initiatives focusing on Brain and Neuroscience. The successful candidate will establish a dynamic, independently funded research program in chemistry, mentor students, and contribute to graduate and undergraduate education and departmental culture. Areas that would complement current department expertise include analytical chemistry, biophysical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or chemical biology. The proposed research must be at the interface of Chemistry and Neuroscience. This new faculty member will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research community in the Department of Chemistry, which offers a collegial and supportive environment and opportunities for collaboration within and between the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Medicine and the Manning Institute of Biotechnology. UVA has invested heavily in STEM, including a recent renovation of the Chemistry building. The position is part of a major Grand Challenges investment of over $50M in Brain and Neuroscience. Recruits will receive support from the Provost and their school and will participate in the Brain and Neuroscience Initiative. More about UVA: a top-five public university, an R1 Carnegie institution, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Charlottesville, VA. The Department of Chemistry includes approximately 29 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 7 general faculty, 20 staff, and ~160 graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Responsibilities

Establish a dynamic, independently funded research program in chemistry at the intersection of Chemistry and Neuroscience. Mentor graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to educational missions and departmental culture. Collaborate within the department and across UVA schools to advance Brain and Neuroscience initiatives. Qualifications

Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field at the time of appointment. A record of excellence in scientific research and a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A well-documented publication record demonstrating chemistry-related contributions. Application Instructions
