Overview

Position: Youth Worker Associate (Part Time) at Chicago Youth Centers (CYC). Location: CYC Rebecca Crown Center, 7601 S. Phillips Ave in Chicago, IL. Schedule: 2:00p – 7:00p; Monday – Friday; schedule subject to change based on organizational needs. Compensation: $18 per hour. Classification: Part Time; Non-Exempt. Reports to: Center Director. Purpose

Within centers/sites and external locations, Youth Worker Associate performs functions to coordinate and implement out-of-school time youth development activities; working with the program team under the general direction of a supervisor, plans and implements daily lessons and activities for assigned after-school groups in the context of CYC’s program framework. Responsibilities

Recruitment, enrollment, and intake of the assigned number of group members; engage in canvassing and other recruitment activities assigned; assist in developing and implementing community relations strategies. Maintain up-to-date and accurate recordkeeping and reporting systems in line with agency standards; track and record group members’ progress consistent with CYC’s outcomes matrix and ETO database procedures. Facilitate one or more School-age and/or Teen Groups; develop and implement weekly lesson plans by CYC’s P21 curriculum model; ensure a safe and appropriate group environment; prepare designated space and materials in advance; ensure program component hours are met and activities align with agency outcomes; monitor progress of individual member goals. Assist with center and agency program evaluation activities as assigned, including supervision and staff meetings, peer reviews, satisfaction surveys, and quality improvement teams; implement recommendations as required. Drive and/or transport children and youth on agency business as needed. Assist in involving parents and families; communicate with parents regarding youths’ progress; help develop parent and family activities as assigned and by agency standards. Mantras

Associate degree or equivalent in Youth Development or related field, with at least six semester hours in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, Camping, or related field. Associate degree equivalency: 30+ semester hours plus 2 years of experience in youth development or related field (six hours in youth development or related field). Or 6 – 30 semester hours plus 3 years of experience in youth development or related field. Advancing Youth Development Certificate (may be acquired at first opportunity). One-year related work experience. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children in youth development; experience with kindergarten–2nd-grade students; ability to teach science, music, arts & crafts; strong verbal and written communication; computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access).
