Overview Guest Services, Inc. is hiring for a Cafe Attendant in Washington, DC. Base pay range: $17.00/hr. Schedule entails 8am - 5pm. Candidates must be able to work weekends and occasional evening shifts in the spring and summer.

Job Summary The Cafe Attendant is responsible for assisting in all areas of customer service. The Attendant is involved in most aspects of day-to-day operations, such as inventory, sales, cash handling, sales reconciliation, line service, etc., while maintaining a high level of customer service at all times. The role includes cross-training in cashier, cook, line server, and general utility functions.

Essential Functions

Take orders from customers and prepare foods requiring short preparation times according to customer requirements.

Perform food preparation tasks, such as making sandwiches, carving meats, making soups or salads, baking breads or desserts, and brewing coffee or tea.

Set up, restock, and break down of food preparation equipment, work areas, and counters or tables.

Restock kitchen supplies and rotate food.

Accept payments and issue receipts, refunds, credit, or change due to customers.

Maintain a clean and orderly cash station area and stock supplies.

May be assigned to other duties as required by the Shift Supervisor or Manager.

Skill and Knowledge Requirements

Partial High School education; High School Diploma/G.E.D. preferred.

Ability to interpret menus and recipes and follow directions; good visual and communication skills.

Ability to record information on culinary production sheets.

Knowledge of sanitation standards.

Willing to be cross-trained in other areas of the workplace.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Frequent movement within the unit; bend, lift, carry, reach above shoulder height; comfortable in a changing environment.

Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally; 25 lbs. regularly; 30-35 lbs. frequently.

Stand for entire shift; climb stairs regularly.

Work in temperature extremes in freezer, walk-in, and cooking areas.

Reading and writing work-related documents in English; clear speech and comprehension for customer and coworker interactions.

Presence at the job site is essential.

Equipment Used

Standard commercial cooking machinery and utensils.

Cash register.
