$30.00/hr - $35.00/hr Soni's client is seeking a Payroll Staff Accountant to be responsible for processing payroll and maintaining accurate payroll records for the organization using a cloud-based payroll and HR software system. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations while supporting the Finance team with reconciliations, reporting, and audits. The ideal candidate has experience in payroll accounting, a strong understanding of non-profit operations, and is proficient in payroll software platforms. Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing & Accounting: Process weekly payroll for a small group of approximately 25 part-time or seasonal employees. Process bi-weekly payroll for a broader staff of around 100 employees. Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in accordance with organizational policies and deadlines. Review and validate employee timesheets, paid time off (PTO), overtime, and wage changes. Maintain compliance with labor regulations and internal controls. Post payroll journal entries to the general ledger and reconcile payroll-related accounts. Reporting & Compliance: Prepare and submit all required quarterly and year-end tax filings (e.g., Forms 941, W-2s, W-3s, and applicable state reports). Support external audits by compiling payroll reports, schedules, and documentation. Maintain organized and up-to-date employee payroll files and records. System Management: Administer and troubleshoot payroll system functionality in collaboration with HR and IT. Generate ad hoc payroll and labor cost reports as needed. Stay informed about updates and enhancements to payroll software. Finance Support: Assist with journal entries, monthly bank reconciliations, and financial close processes. Track payroll expenditures related to grants, restricted funds, or program-specific budgets. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred). Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll and accounting, ideally in a nonprofit environment. Hands-on experience with payroll and HRIS systems (specific experience with cloud-based systems preferred). Solid understanding of payroll regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Familiarity with fund accounting and nonprofit financial operations is a plus. Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting software (e.g., cloud-based ERP systems). Compensation:
