University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track, benefits-eligible position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, beginning in Fall 2026. The Department of Psychology and Counseling seeks candidates with experience conducting integrative assessments and producing comprehensive psychological reports for children, adolescents, and/or young adults presenting with symptoms associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, learning disorders, and other related concerns. The candidate will help develop assessment services at the in-house training clinic and teach assessment practicum courses as part of the APA-accredited doctoral training program in Clinical Psychology. The research area is open, with expectations for scholarly productivity, external funding, and training future health service psychologists. The department supports rigorous training, innovative research, and a commitment to students’ achievement and academic excellence. The School Counseling emphasis within the master’s program is accredited by MPCAC and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Our department houses an undergraduate program in Psychology and a master’s program in Counseling; the CCAS clinic serves the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. The Department seeks a colleague with clinical and teaching expertise in conducting integrative assessments and comprehensive psychological assessment with children, adolescents, and/or young adults, who demonstrates potential for excellence in research, will contribute to the clinical psychology program as well as other academic programs, and is dedicated to graduate and undergraduate teaching through in-person, blended, online synchronous, and online asynchronous modalities. The candidate will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary group of faculty and staff. Successful candidates will be expected to: play a central organizational role in developing assessment services in our in-house training clinic and collaborate with faculty and other stakeholders; teach assessment practicum courses as part of the Department's doctoral training program; maintain an active research program contributing to inclusive excellence and innovative research; maintain a record of peer-reviewed publications; seek and secure external funding as needed for sustained research productivity; mentor and provide research supervision for Clinical Psychology PhD students and mentor students from BA/MA programs; demonstrate teaching excellence in graduate and undergraduate courses; collaborate with colleagues in teaching, research, and mentoring missions; provide service commensurate with the Assistant/Associate Professor rank. This is a full-time [100% FTE], benefit-eligible, 9-month ranked academic appointment to begin Fall Semester 2026. Summer teaching may be available. Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program, awarded by September 1, 2026. Candidates must be license-eligible as a psychologist in Missouri and must obtain full licensure no later than September 2027. Preference will be given to candidates with a clinical psychology degree, prior university teaching experience, and a record of scholarship commensurate with the rank of tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor; currently tenured faculty at the Associate Professor rank may qualify for expedited tenure review. Salary is commensurate with credentials, experience, and demonstrated potential for success in externally funded research.
