Job Summary

The SLCC Nursing Program offers students a comprehensive, affordable, high quality education taught by expert health care providers with advanced degrees. Access to state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on experience in a variety of clinical settings will provide the students with the science of healing and the art of compassion.

In conjunction with the course and lead instructors, the major function of adjunct nursing clinical faculty is student learning activities and evaluation in the clinical setting.

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment. Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within in 30 days of hire.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Receives appropriate orientation to the role and responsibilities of position. Coordinates teaching and learning activities in clinical sites under direction of course instructor. Communicates issues and/or concerns with course instructor. Attends faculty meetings on a regular basis if available. Provides input into clinical objectives, including updates, revisions and/or deletions. Maintains optimal relationships with assigned clinical agencies and Salt Lake Community College. Follows course syllabi in determining student learning objectives. Counsels students and maintains accurate records under the direction of the course instructor. Serves as role model for students. Serves on Nursing Program committees if desirable. Participates in professional activities and maintains membership in professional organizations. Evaluates student clinical performance in conjunction with the course instructor. Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment. Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy. Maintains professional and collegial behavior. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1–2 days). Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure. Completes all required employee trainings. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines. Provides ADA accommodations as requested Other job-related duties as needed. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on-line only courses.

You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time.

You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

Minimum Qualifications

Prior teaching experience in nursing. Two years of practice as a nurse. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing program.

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years practice as a nurse. Master’s Degree in Nursing.
