As Director of Accounting at Bilt, you will lead our annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors while driving strategic accounting initiatives across the organization. This is an audit-heavy role that offers exceptional opportunities to learn, scale accounting operations, and shape financial infrastructure at a rapidly growing fintech company. The position demands deep technical expertise in US GAAP, exceptional audit management capabilities, and the ability to translate complex accounting standards into actionable business solutions. In this role, you will… Audit Leadership & Compliance : Lead comprehensive annual audit engagements with external auditors, serving as primary liaison and technical subject matter expert Develop and execute audit preparation strategies, including PBC (Prepared by Client) schedules, supporting documentation, and technical memoranda. Drive remediation efforts for audit findings Technical Accounting & Policy Development : Research, interpret, and implement complex accounting standards including ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), ASC 350 (Intangibles), ASC 842 (Leases), ASC 326 (Credit Losses), ASC 805 (Business Combinations), and ASC 718 (Equity-Based Compensation) Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions including restructuring activities and emerging payment technologies Monitor regulatory developments and assess impact of new accounting pronouncements on business operations Financial Reporting & Month-end Close : Support month-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statement preparation Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses with detailed supporting documentation Work with the finance team to explain monthly results, variances, and accounting impacts Implement and maintain documentation standards and process improvements Systems Implementation & Process Optimization : Support ERP and subsidiary ledger system implementations, including requirements gathering, testing protocols, and go-live activities Evaluate and implement emerging fintech solutions to enhance accounting operations, including automation tools, data analytics platforms, and AI-powered reconciliation systems Design scalable processes and controls to support rapid business growth and evolving product offerings Collaborate with Payments, Data, and other cross-functional teams on system integrations and data integrity initiatives Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration : Partner with Payments, FP&A, Tax, and Legal teams on complex accounting and reporting matters Collaborate with accounting team to optimize operations and drive process improvements Manage implementation of new accounting standards and assess business impact Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process efficiency and control effectiveness Present complex accounting matters to senior leadership and board of directors Collaborate with external advisors including auditors, tax specialists, and technical accounting consultants In Terms Of Qualifications, We’re Seeking 6+ years of progressive experience at Big 4 public accounting firms with emphasis on technology and fintech clients Expert-level knowledge of US GAAP with specific expertise in ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 350, and ASC 326 Proficiency in technical accounting research and advanced Excel skills Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities with strong attention to detail Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-accounting stakeholders Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously Self-directed leadership style with ability to thrive in fast-paced, unstructured environments Benefits: Compensation - We offer a competitive salary with a meaningful stake in the company via equity and our performance bonus program Health insurance for you (& your loved ones) from day one - Enjoy a One Medical Membership, wellness stipends, family programs and more, on us.
