Overview
The purpose of this job is to operate under the guidance of Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Manager in the day-to-day activities of the Commercial Real Estate Department, while developing/building the skills necessary to progress as a Portfolio Manager. Other purposes are to assist in portfolio management, the preparation of loan packages, learning to monitor loan covenants compliance, exception reporting, clearing exceptions, loan draws, etc. And to conduct special projects as required.
Responsibilities
Time management
Development of prospect list
Work with Commercial Real Estate personnel on a day-to-day basis to continue learning the fundamentals of loan portfolio management, i.e. loan underwriting, risk analysis, identification of risk rate, packaging and presentation, portfolio management, renewal process, with oversight from an experienced Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Manager.
Continue learning and assisting with monitoring loan covenant compliance, exceptions and past dues, and loan draws/advances.
Make joint calls with the Commercial Real Estate Relationship Managers, and/or Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Managers to gather information for loan presentation, participates in follow-up calls as needed
Level I responsibilities
Assessment of credit quality and proper risk rating for Commercial Real Estate loan portfolio
Determination of data required for loan packages
Portfolio management decisions
Determination of which existing customers would be potential candidates for expanded services
Practice commercial loan portfolio management skills through practical application of assigned portfolio including project analysis, loan underwriting, proper risk analysis and identification of risk rate, packaging and presentation, renewal processing, loan doc prep and closing, collateral analysis, past due notice management, etc. Work with Audit, Loan Review and the OCC as needed.
Monitors loan compliance covenant, exceptions, and past dues as well as monitors construction progress to ensure loan draws are funded and documented.
Makes joint calls with the CRE Relationship Managers to gather information for the client; goes on follow-up calls as needed.
Solicits existing portfolio customers in an effort to increase and retain volume and cross-sell Bank products and services. Promotes customer relations.
Qualifications
Four-year college degree preferred
Minimum of two (2) years banking experience or equivalent in one or a combination of the following areas:
Management Development Program
Relationship Manager
Credit Analysis
Retail Banking
Level I additional qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, and Accounting related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of three years (3) of commercial lending/credit experience.
Experience with real estate or commercial lending risk analysis
Well-developed understanding of lending and credit approval process as well as pertinent bank policies and external regulations
Detailed knowledge of credit analysis practice and procedure
Familiarity with products and services offered by financial services institutions
Excellent interpersonal skills
Developed decision making
Proven ability to build relationships
Time management/organization skills
Computer skills to include word processing and spreadsheet application
Effective analytical skills
Ability to interact with external and internal customers
